Let’s Go To The Masquerade……… Or Not

Learn to limit yourself to content yourself with some definite thing, and some definite work, dare to be what be what you are, and learn to resign with a good grace all that you are not and to believe in your own individuality.

 -Henri Frederic Amiel

The invitation reads:

Masquerade!

Masks required (Actual identity to remain hidden)

Purpose: To take on identity of character you are posing to be.

Come, have temporary fun

Remember though— the Ball will end, the mask will come off, and your true self

will be revealed!

Masquerades are always exciting and mysterious. You can choose to be whoever you want to be and for that brief moment of time you’re able to hide your hurt, your pain, your shame, your guilt, your negativity.  People only see the mask. They remain curious as to who the person behind the mask truly is. Eventually the masquerade ends, the mask comes off, and the real you is revealed! Just who is it that’s left standing there?

So often today society dictates what we’re supposed to look like, what clothes we wear, what type of car we drive, what kind of house we live in, and what activities are going to make us happy. Happiness by definition is the state of contentment. To go deeper in definition; contentment is, according to Webster, a peaceful kind of happiness in which one rests without desires, even though every wish may not have been gratified. What can we do to find our own personal style and without it can we honestly find happiness?  It is safe to say we CAN be different, set ourselves apart, and still fit in.

IDENTIFYING PRIORITIES. When we identify our priorities, we have a better understanding of our values and with the discovery of what’s really important, everything else seems small in comparison. Surrounding ourselves with what is enjoyable decreases stress levels and we get a clearer perspective of who we really are. Letting go of the fairytale allows us to move on.

PATH OF SELF DISCOVERY. Penning our goals to paper gives us a better focused picture on where we are and the direction we are headed. Becoming self-aware of our own thoughts, uniqueness, personal strengths, and our individual features, personality and character, enables the desire to grow and allows us to make a plan that’s personal to us.

First, we must have the awareness that once the journey of personal discovery begins, we will have challenges. Learn to laugh at mistakes and learn from them. Realizing that it’s ok to fail permits us to continue moving forward. When we start to reach our goals, we strengthen our confidence.

Second, recognizing and achieving what’s important to us, gives us the confidence to trust in our own decisions and abilities. Confidence leads to experiencing true joy and freedom. When we invest in our own happiness we find that our activities and habits are more positive and we establish healthier relationships that reside in honesty, love, and support.

Finally, the path to our dreams may not be an easy one. It does, however, begin with our own personal relationship. We have to love ourselves, like ourselves, and be with happy with who we are, before we can live our dreams. Finding where our passion lies is a great beginning.

How do you show the world who you are? You become the Master of your own destiny! Accept who you are and go find YOUR passion!

“Faces of gold to hide behind,

Living life like lucid dreams,

What does it mean,

If it’s ONLY A MASK!”

R. R. Jones

Final word is this: Go have some fun and enjoy your life!!
