What We Can Learn From Nancy Drew™

Oh! That sleuth! What was it about Nancy Drew™ that kept us from our chores and up late on a school night? We were riveted by the colorful and chilling characters, the thrilling adventures, and unraveling the mystery. Her precarious adventures were so much more exciting than dusting the living room or doing homework! She influenced and inspired many young girls to become the leaders they are today. So what made her such an icon to move generations? What can we learn from her now?

Independence and Balance:

In any harrowing situation, she relied on herself. She looked at the tools she already possessed to remove her from dire circumstances. Her confidence in her own abilities enabled her to reach her goals. She was a risk taker and very bold in her approach; however, she balanced it out and maintained strong character, integrity, and was compassionate and humble.

Having belief in ourselves extends the boundaries of our limitations. As we accomplish each goal and have reached farther than we have in the past, we develop more confidence. Our self esteem is elevated. Another aspect in building self esteem is reaching out to others.

Driven to Problem Solving:

Nancy stared “danger” in the eyes and never turned away. She knew that things weren’t always what they seemed to be. With developing an action plan, keeping track of her progress by journaling, staying focused on what had to be done, and never giving up, she was able to solve the mystery and see the “big picture” for what it really was.

Focusing on our goals and developing an action plan keeps us on track to obtain what we want in life. Attaining fulfillment is the evidence of our success. It takes a great deal of time and maneuvering to finally reach that destination, so patience and persistence is the key.

Surrounded by Support:

Nancy had a support system that she knew she could rely on when she needed them. When she needed help, she was able to reach out to the person who could provide it. Even when trapped, she knew that she was not alone.

Developing an emotional support is very important. Not only does it provide a sounding board when we need to vent frustration or discuss ideas, a support system also holds us accountable. Goals seem easier to reach when we have a responsibility to ourselves.

True Fashion Statements:

What about that awesome car and that fabulous wardrobe! Who knew fashion accessories could also get us out of a bind. Her favorite shades of lipstick could leave the most noticeable message when signaling help and those spiked heels could break any window!

Looking good definitely boosts our spirits and when you feel better, you look better.

There’s quite a bit that we can learn from our favorite sleuth, even today!
